Specifying for use on structural steel projects

Specifying Classic all-metal DTIs:

For ASTM F3125 Grade A325 or Grade A490 Bolts:"All Grade A325 or Grade A490 High Strength Structural Bolts shall be installed, tightened, and inspected using ASTM F959 Direct Tension Indicators manufactured by TurnaSure® or engineer-approved equal."

For ASTM F3125 Grade A325M or Grade A490M Metric Bolts"All Grade A325M or Grade A490M High Strength Structural Bolts shall be installed, tightened, and inspected using ASTM F959M Direct Tension Indicators manufactured by TurnaSure® or engineer-approved equal."

For ASTM A449 or ASTM A354BD Heavy Hex Structural Bolts in diameters greater than 1-1/2in"All ASTM A449 or ASTM A354 Grade BD High Strength Structural Bolts shall be installed, tightened, and inspected using ASTM F2437 Style 2 Direct Tension Indicators manufactured by TurnaSure® or engineer-approved equal."

Specifying ViewTite® self-indicating DTIs:

For ASTM F3125 Grade A325 or Grade A490 Bolts:"All Grade A325 or Grade A490 High Strength Structural Bolts shall be installed, tightened, and inspected using ViewTite®ASTM F959 Direct Tension Indicators manufactured by TurnaSure® or engineer-approved equal."

For ASTM F3125 Grade A325M or Grade A490M Metric Bolts"All Grade A325M or Grade A490M High Strength Structural Bolts shall be installed, tightened, and inspected using ViewTite® ASTM F959M Direct Tension Indicators manufactured by TurnaSure® or engineer-approved equal."

Specifying DTIs within the European Economic Area:

For EN 14399-3 or EN 14399-7 (System HR) and EN 14399-4 or EN 14399-8 (System HV) Bolts and Nuts"All EN High Strength Bolting Assemblies shall be installed, tightened, and inspected using EN-14399-9 Direct Tension Indicators".

For other High Strength Bolt Applications (DIN 6914, JISB 1186 F10T, DASt-Guideline 021)"All (State Applicable Standards) High Strength Bolting Assemblies shall be installed, tightened, and inspected using matched TurnaSure Direct Tension Indicators tested in accordance with ASTM F606/F606M using the sampling plan specified in ASTM F1470 and meeting the required minimum bolt preloads for of this application as stated below."

Specifying for Anchor Bolts

For ASTM F1554 Grade 36, Grade 55, and Grade 105 Anchor Bolts"All ASTM F1554 anchor bolts shall be installed, tightened, and inspected using Direct Tension Indicators to ASTM F2437/F2437M manufactured by TurnaSure®".

Specifying for Pressure Vessels, Pipe Flanges, other ASME applications

For ASTM A 193 Studs"All ASTM A193 studs shall be installed, tightened and inspected using Direct Tension Indicators to ASTM F2437/F2437M (Grade 105) manufactured by TurnaSure® . Minimum preload shall be (specify 40%, 50%, 60%, other) of yield."

Specifying for Hex Cap Screws (SAE / ASTM / ISO)

For SAE J429 Grade 5 and Grade 8 or ASTM A449 and ASTM A354BD hex cap screws"All hex cap screws shall be installed, tightened and inspected using Direct Tension Indicators to ASTM F2437/F2437M, Style 1,manufactured by TurnaSure®".

For Metric Class 8.8 or Class 10.9 cap screws"All Class 8.8 and Class 10.9 hex cap screws shall be installed, tightened, and inspected using Direct Tension Indicators to ASTM F2437/F2437M, Style 1, manufactured by TurnaSure®".

Specifying for customer's own proprietary specification

"All fastener assemblies shall be installed, tightened, and inspected using Direct Tension Indicators manufactured by TurnaSure. Samples shall be tested from each lot in accordance with ASTM F1470 and ASTM F606/F606M respectively to demonstrate conformance with the compression load requirements specified herein."
